Oh, I already modified the elementary emerald theme with your buttons:)

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Elementary+Modified?content=106491

Ah, but that's not metacity, is it? :P

Looks pretty good though. I already have a good emerald theme which basically won't get changed now, it's just metacity that needs sorting out.

And then a deb package to install everything in one click - that's my dream.

seriously: beautiful terminals-how? :D

Simple. Define some colors, font specifications, et., in your .Xdefaults (assuming you know about Xdefaults and what it can do as such). As far as vim goes, get a good vim color scheme and use it. You can even define the scheme to be used by default when you want to edit files with vim, by defining the same in your .vimrc.

Also you can define prompt behavior whether the shell you are using is bash or zsh.

If you need my configs, let me know.

what terminal and panel do you use? and how do you get the command in the title of the terminal?

You could see clearly in the screenshot, the terminal is xterm. And there is no third party panel used, just the default fluxbox toolbar, themed to go with the fluxbox theme.

The fancy command title is set in my .zshrc. If you want it to be displayed, just copy and paste the text below in your .zshrc.

## display fancy terminal title
case $TERM in
*xterm*|(u)rxvt|(u|dt|k|E)term)
## display user@host and full dir in *term title
precmd () {
print -Pn "\033]0;%n@%m: %~ (%l)\007"
#print -Pn "\033]0;%n@%m%# %~ %l %w :: %T\a" ## or use this
}
## display user@host and name of current process in *term title
preexec () {
print -Pn "\033]0;%n@%m <$1> %~ (%l)\007"
#print -Pn "\033]0;%n@%m%# <$1> %~ %l %w :: %T\a" ## or use this
}

Hey perfectska04, just a quick rant here, because i saw the discussion on gnomelooks regarding the arctic/aluminium icons, and since i don't have a gnome-looks account i post here instead...
"Arctic" did look stunning, but if i were to choose between the dark and light "Aluminium", the light did look much better. My vote goes to "Arctic" though.
Maybe you could start using "mixed" colors if arctic doesn't look to good with devices. Say, use a standard gray/white with all "devices", but colorize the rest of the system?

Something i do quite often, is to use "neutral theme" as a base, and the colorize the most common, and visual elements, in a particular color, such as common "toolbar items" (go-* etc) and places (folder*, user-*). I would imagine that's not a solution for you, being the "perfectionist" you are... ;)

Also i was a little sad to see the lightbrown dust go, but the dark brown is also really pretty, so that is no big loss. However, a light brown icon theme would still be welcome in the future. I must say the folder icons (old gnome-dust) did look a little too gray actually, so maybe using a little more light brown than the "shortlived" gnome-dust would do it.

BTW thanks for all the hard work!

Arctic or Aluminium didn't really work out. They pretty much looked as if I just ran a grayscale script on all the icons, which isn't necessarily bad, but it looked rather dull and boring in usage. Then again, in the future, I might perfect the Aluminium palette so that it looks well with Shiki and make it inheritable by all the other sets, so the package ends up smaller than 10MB and other artists can just inherit the gnome-colors base and make any color scheme they want easily. As for the short-lived light dust, it was just a bad decision as the folders looked almost like packages and the color palette reminded people of bodily functions rather than chocolate. It's still uploaded to mediafire for archiving as gnome-caramel, but it was completely dropped.

Hey ... yes it's very very awesome! :)
But have in mind that non-icons but text in english is great, because the words are *normally* quite short. But if I imagine it in a german- or in another language I stay a little bit sceptic.
For example: "up" - "nach oben" (german) ...
Anyway it's a great idea and it's looking really good. ;)

On other side we have now Gnome-Dust at our disposal and I think that this would be a good alternative/option for your theme in a icon-modus. ;)

PD: Please don't forget the widgets like global-menu, indicator and fast-user-switch...

Well I haven't used Shiretoko (ever, I've been a Minefield user since it first became labeled that back in 2.0 I believe), but I know for sure that any and all upgrades to FF that might be considered "unstable" are first put on Minefield (hence the name) before they ever make it to an official release.

You are right in the fact that Minefield is currently numbered "3.6a1pre" but it's just to give it a number.

Well, the non-icons isn't actually a part of my theme. It's just a setting in Nautilus.

I would like to work on some icons, but creating an entire theme from scratch would take forever, especially with my limited graphic art skills.

The first one was my desktop three days ago...

I was tired of it and tired of how was working Jaunty after the updating from Intrepid, so I decided to reinstall all the OS from the beginning. Some desktop improvements later, these are the results.

Theme: Moomex
Window Borders: Dust
Icons: Mashup-1
Font: Iwona
Wallpaper: A place to be, from DeviantArt
Avant Window Manager
Some Screenlets

Now Jaunty on my dell laptop works perfect, and there's no problems with the compiz effects!

Details please. Especially what borders are you using and how did you get the panel to look so great. is it AWN on the left? What is on the right? and how did you get AWN on the left?
Here is where I got nearly all the inspiration. http://narf41.deviantart.com/

This is the theme I'm using. http://narf41.deviantart.com/art/gORIH-126795383

Icons are Meliae-Dark (although I may change to Meliae White)

That is awn on the left, trayer on the right. Clock is a screenlet, and the awn icons are http://stopdreaming.deviantart.com/art/Albook-extended-782-png-95130593

I also hate any applet for awn that shows the gnome menu, so i cheated by making a top panel, shrinking it to autohide to 1, then setting the time that it will appear at something like 1000000000 ms. This way I can still click on the menu, and not have to have the whole panel appear. Kinda hides it too, which is niccccee.

I've quoted narf41's orig post about how to move awn.

created a new sreenlet theme for sensors and netmonitor, fitting to the awn icons
http://ubuntu-pics.de/thumb/17005/orihawn_45Z25k.png (http://ubuntu-pics.de/bild/17005/orihawn_45Z25k.png)

you can place awn left or right from center: gconf editor>>apps>>awn>>bar>>bar_pos
value from 0 to 1 in 0.1 steps (0=left, 0.5=center, 1=right)

That's the desktop art plugin for Rhythmbox. Instructions are at http://www.nedrebo.org/code/rhythmbox_desktop_art

If you don't use Rhythmbox similar applications are available. There's covergloobus which works for a few different players and I think there are screenlets available too.

Grrr...I just can't stick to one desktop for long! I've gone with a monochrome colour scheme this time, with lovely dreamy windows...

Can't remember where the wallpaper is from...
GTK is a mish-mash of pretty much all the themes I have!
Emerald is my own theme, Milky Future Minimal, available on gnome-look: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Milky+Future+Minimal+Emerald+Theme?content=107235 (Ooh, look at me, with an Emerald theme on gnome-look and everything!!!)
Same conky as always!

I agree to a certain extent. Although with the clock at the top right of the screen I notice the time rather than before i had to look at the time when i just had the clock on the panel. This is handy when if like me you always find yourslef glued to the srceen longer than you originally meant to. I may get rid of the clock in the panel if I find an alternative to the calender.

that happens (imo) bc people like conky but are too lazy/dont know how to configure it themselves so just download a premade config and dont change it at all.

That's part of the window decoration which is drawn on ALL windows. I think the only way to remove that would be to not decorate the terminal window - but I think that would mean losing the title-bar as well.

This is my new desktop that I am rather proud of. For the past several weeks I've debated switching to KDE after being a gnome user for two years now. Visually, it is so far ahead of gnome, but I prefer the usability of gnome. I tried using it last week, but there are some things that are just too different that I won't be able to get used to (not to mention the network manager is buggy and difficult to figure out). So I decided to try installing plasma in gnome, and to my surprise it worked almost perfectly. Here is my desktop with Aurora GTK and Glassified Plasma:

I don't think the voting system should be done away with either. Perhaps a voting system where you can only vote positively would work better. Then, results would be ranked based off of total positive votes.

Thank you for the info. The thread moves so quick it took a couple days to find your reply. Actually when I decided to stop being lazy and read all the posts after mine!!:D

To be honest, there's not much to it. I'm still very much a linux newbie, so I can try to explain my very best what I've done. I believe I installed the kdebase-plasma package in synaptic (and the dependencies followed). I may have also installed kdebase-workspace and kdebase-workspace-data. Then, simply ALT-F2 and run plasma (first startup might take awhile) and eventually it will "grab" your desktop and take control of the wallpaper and add a panel at the botton. You can add an entry to Startup Applications for plasma to have it start each time you log in. I would suggest disabling the folder view that comes enabled by default because it will crash the entire plasma interface if you right click or perform other actions within it. You can also run gconf-editor and browse to apps/nautilus/preferences and uncheck "show desktop" to disable the nautilus desktop running behind plasma. I'm not sure if there's anything else...The top gnome panel can be configured any way you want really, but if you use a panel packground with transparency, it will show through to the "nautilus" desktop, so you will have to make sure that the wallpaper set in plasma is the same as the wallpaper set in gnome under "Appearance".

Okay, here is an update...

Dock is AWN
Fonts are GE Inspira 9.5
Wallpaper is from interfacelift.com
Metacity is Wasp Hard
Gtk is Plastique
Icons are Hydroxygen

This combo makes a gorgeous desktop, and functional too! Like a mix between KDE and Gnome...

If I forgot some info, let me know...

Your desks always make me wonder if I give up too early on purple!

Thanks. I really like using purple themes. I find it doesn't clash with other colours, and its feels relaxing, so to speak.

It was uploaded, so that's quite weird.

Mark76 meant for you to upload one without the windows so that the wallpaper could be fully seen.
