It's a very nice KDE-Desktop ... I like it. :)

But even in this pretty shot I see things I really don't like and nerved me using KDE 4.2 in the past .... ;)

most of you quibbles come from my inexpert mashing of stuff, or the bespin engine.

starting from the top left.

too excessive: bespin, not the default.
2-3 pixels more to right: I don't understand this one. Please explain.
?whats this?: those are the buttons from bespin window decoration, however since I am using nitrogen, they look out of place.
ugly: AGREED. Some of the icons in oxygen are weird.
scaled hires icon: well on a plasma panel each icon is scaled. does it scale well? maybe, it also might be that the air plasma them isnt meant to be run on 4.2
not a clear symbol, ugly too: Agreed. oxygen can be odd.
weather icon in the corner: I agree with you but that plasmoid widget isn't even in the repos, so the uglies are my screwy configuration. Also I am not sure one is meant to run it in the panel. the official weather plasmoid is pretty nifty.

i know the default and bespin. bespin haves many setting for customization. but this adjusts for regular the blur i miss. ;)

2-3 pixels more to right: I don't understand this one. Please explain.

in this situation u put dolphin it isn't so notable. but if you delete the place-border the folder is to near to the edge. shifting it 2 or 3 pixels more to the right would be really well. ;)

?whats this?: those are the buttons from bespin window decoration, however since I am using nitrogen, they look out of place.

a intention of modern symbols. but it's too much star-trek for me. :D :D

scaled hires icon: well on a plasma panel each icon is scaled. does it scale well? maybe, it also might be that the air plasma them isnt meant to be run on 4.2

no no. this icon is only in the 128px-folder and is scaled by the system. I think icons which are so important and always seen in the panel should be handled better. ;) what i want to say is that this icon should appear in the default-set as 48px,32px,22px and 16px as fixed sizes and corrected by hand like many different icons in the set. At moment it's only a scaled hires-icon where you can see light errors on it. f. example the usb-symbol isn't very good see-able. ;)

weather icon in the corner: I agree with you but that plasmoid widget isn't even in the repos, so the uglies are my screwy configuration. Also I am not sure one is meant to run it in the panel. the official weather plasmoid is pretty nifty.

the author knows about, because i talked with him since a while before ...
i let him this point/suggestion. more i can't do ... :)
for say the truth ... it's a personal wishlist on this great plasmaoid. :D

Why do people bother with 75hz? 60hz is about what the human eye can process.

I use 85hz on this old CRT because anything lower gives me a headache.

There are a lot of good KDE4 desktops here.
I just saw a new wallpaper and I think it was perfect for a clock.

http://g.imagehost.org/t/0434/snapshot2.jpg (http://g.imagehost.org/view/0434/snapshot2)

There's a clock applet in the center and it was on purpose. I think the wallpaper matches the clock.
Theme: Glassified and theres a Daisy launcher at the top which I don't like.
Icons: Eikon

I don't know whether it comes with a Kubuntu PPA install, but you can get it right from the SVN repository. Just navigate to ~/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme/ and check it out with:

svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/base/plasma/desktoptheme/air/
Then you should be able to select it from the desktop settings dialog.

svn checkout svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/base/plasma/desktoptheme/air

Is there a .deb package of Bespin available, or is it still compile-by-source?

Because I get a warning that libQt4's functions aren't available during the "configure" stage.

EDIT: Got past that stage, now I get:

Most of my widgets aren't programmed. Unzip a superkaramba theme sometime and check out the structure. It's pretty simple. Mine most of the time have some funky looking bash script or call an external python script or have some complex imagemagick maneuvers, but that's about it.

Could you check if amrk.py is working correctly by running "amrk.py -c". You might also check whether /usr/local/bin is in you path.

I saw Arcade Fire live several years ago, right after Funeral came out, in Columbia, Missouri. The place that they played was so small that the drummer was able to use the rafters as a makeshift percussion instrument from time to time, standing up and beating his sticks against them. The "stage" in the place was clearly an afterthought. We even got to stick around and chat with the members of the band afterwards. I've seen hundreds of bands live, and that was definitely one of the more memorable.

This theme is finally starting to come together.

I found an awesome panel background on deviantART and made a custom menu button just for it. The panel applets on the sides are locked so that things don't get pushed off into the transparent parts.

I didn't do much to the theme itself. I did however, import some settings from a theme I scrapped a long time ago.

I recolored a wallpaper from Alexander_GG's "Colored Backgrounds pack" to match the overall color scheme.

Anyway, here are the details of these specific screenshots:

GTK: Espresso 0.1pre (not yet released; don't ask for it)
Font: Calibri 9
Panel: KDE Style (http://xcracx.deviantart.com/art/Gnome-Panel-set1-KDE-style-120991146) (the panel is designed for a 1024-pixel-wide screen, so you will need to do what I did and edit it in GIMP)
Wallpaper: Colored Backgrounds (http://alexander-gg.deviantart.com/art/Colored-Backgrounds-102172919)

If you have a question about my themes, please ask me here and not in a PM.

God Speck, you know how to turn brown into something amazing looking, good work!

The only thing that I want to know, is how in the world did you get the dropdown arrows on the bookmark toolbar to disappear? I've tried nearly everything I can think of.

Edit, nvm, I FINALLY got it. Heh. I was using this:

#PersonalToolbar .toolbarbutton-menu-dropmarker {display: none !important;}

When I simply should have used this:

.toolbarbutton-menu-dropmarker {display: none !important;}

Dunno what I was thinking for the past half hour using the first one...I dont think I WAS thinking. Also, updated screens of my desktop. Want to make GNOME look as good as kde, heh

Gnome-Do was designed for Gnome, true, but all it takes is a few libs and you're good to go with KDE or even XFCE. It works flawlessly (well, almost (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1188245)) and I find it to be a very worthwhile (and better-looking IMHO) replacement for the default panel.

I have attatched a screenie of my current desktop.

tile your windows? yes
start an email message/im to someone? yes
calendar? yes
clock? yes

dock? yes

The plugin architecture is what really makes it powerful.I havent been playing around with krunner so much yet (just moved to kubuntu for serious) but krunner really doesnt have a scratch on Do's plugins.

Gnome-Do has tons of plugins that really give it alot of power, and the docky theme is downright gorgeous. Plus, it integrates just as well as Krunner. Krunner has ALOT of potential, but it is a work-in-progress.

Oh, sorry! Forgot to include any of that!

The GTK theme is modified from Shiki Colours (Wise), with the window and input boxes, etc. set to match the panel colour (#3D3D3D).

The window decs are Emerald, which I modified (heavily!) from White Mod (from gnome-look.org). About the only thing I kept was the buttons! I changed the engine, colours, frames, titlebar, well, pretty much everything but the buttons.

Gnome-Do sounds awefully tempting, and you say it works in kde? is it the dock looking thing or is that just docky (wich aparently requires Gnome-Do)?

i've been thinking of installing kde and playing around for the last few days now, this might just be what sends me over to the dark side

Docky is just another built in gui for gnome do.

Other than as Izizzle suggested, you might try messing around with window specific behavior under systems settings and forcing a different window type for menu windows, although I'm not sure that it's even possible to turn off shadows just for menus. It might be worth filing a feature request on.

I attached that one to a previous post here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7468699&postcount=1037). You should just have to untar it and run the install script which will spit out a skz file that you can then load with superkaramba.

Wrong wrong my friend, and nice it is. :)
Download Wasp theme pack.
I use Wasp-Alt as controls and Window Border.
Balanzan Icons.
Extremely nice, clean and professional looking.
Wallpaper from zixpk.
I don't have a Firefox theme installed. :)
To change your Firefox to look minimal with your theme, follow these steps.
Add the Tinymenu Firefox add-on.
Right click somewhere around the top of Firefox, around the address bar.
When you see a list, Navigation Toolbar, Bookmarks toolbar, and Customization, click Customization.
Drag your back and forward buttons, refresh, stop, home, address bar, and search bar to the top. Restart Firefox. Uncheck Navigation and Bookmarks toolbars. And that's all. :)
This will be great for your netbook!
Also, to get more space, go to view and uncheck status bar.
Happy browsing. :)

Is there any way to make the notification tray on gnome-panel expand to the left whenever a new icon appears?

My panel background gives the illusion that the panel isn't expanded completely. I have the trash applet locked to the far right, with the notification tray directly to its left, as in the following screenshot:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk122/SpecKtacle/Screenshot-30.png

However, even thought the trash applet is locked to the panel, and therefore immovable, whenever something is added to the notification tray, it expands the tray to the right, pushing the trash applet "off" the panel.

I looked at the man page for trayer, and it didn't show a "grow" option.

Though, I installed it, and gave it a fixed width and height and set the alignment to right, and it did basically what I wanted. My problem, though, is that when I place it on top of my panel and then click the panel, it disappears.

Not sure about Gnome-panel but xfce4-panel's notification area behaviour changes, depending on whether the panel is left, right or centre-aligned.

Apologies - it's stalonetray that has the grow option (where's the facepalm smiley? :p)

I just tried it in gnome and noticed the same problem. Even setting trayer as dock doesn't work because gnome-panel has window type "dock". Do you have the CompizConfig Settings Manager? If you enable the Window Rules plugin under the Window Management section, you can add
class=Gnome-panel to the "Below" matches. I don't normally use compiz so I'm not sure if this will have any side effects for other stuff you use.

Firefox is taking about 60+mb of that RAM so that's pretty impressive for XP, even in a VM.

Was using twm for a while on a very old box last night, and gave into nostalgia. So this is ctwm on my eee running freebsd 7.2

I've always wondered, what is the name of the music player on the lower left?

You can see in the window title that's it's ncmpc, which is an mpd client. There's also ncmpcpp which is a fork of it, with some more features.

Thanks. GTK is Retrouble (http://evill3nny.deviantart.com/art/Retrouble-126509408) and openbox is arch.blue (http://www.box-look.org/content/show.php/arch.blue?content=74000&PHPSESSID=20399285e98a5b7d4f391f6fbf4f5519) with the colors changed.

I found OpenGeu 8.10 Luna Serena still very buggy and unstable, maybe the 9.04 will be much more stable, especially the ecomorph.;)

Just a follow-up to last night's screenie. After posting, I was annoyed enough by the bright orange icons that I made a new icon set just to match my new warm theme.

Icons: GNOME-Dust
GTK: Shiki-Dust
GDM/Wallpaper: Arc-Dust with random sunset wallpaper.

Well, I already made five... what's one more? It's far more tedious than it is difficult, after a few hours recoloring in inkscape you start seeing every color in the world as a hex number. At least is not as troublesome as it used to be, I've turned tons of application icons into common/neutral colors, so now I only have to redo about 200 icons for a new set instead of 1000.

I'll take a vacation starting tomorrow... Right now I'm actually re-doing the whole Dust thing because the icons didn't come out too chocolate-y enough for me. I did get the aluminium media icons idea from your screenies and from Erectus, it's certainly cleaner.

What engine are you using there, murrine? It's sort of inverted with pseudo-gloss effects... really nice.

:D It's the Ubuntu-Evolution-Theme from somebody in my german forum. It's really nice, but not really really what I need. It's only a presentation screen-shot. But honestly, also in the truth, I am always switching between Wasp and Shiki-Human with my Plasp-Metacity. For my gust I think I did all my homework ... :D

Cheers

Edit:

:o Oh, I forgott ...
You shoulded, by time, do a check-up of my Gnome-Colors-mod-Theme.
So I included two icons (in total there are three and I will include the last - not so important icon - by time) for the brightness-applet and a improved gnome-power-manager-icon for example ... ;)

What can I do? how can i change it??

Has anyone got a monitor with the same aspect ratio as an Apple one?

Seems to me any attempt to mimic the Apple look is incomplete if you don't.

Macs tend to use 16:10 (or 8:5, in a less retarded universe). It's just a shame I mostly hate mac themes.

Do you mean the black menubar?

Try setting the
bg[NORMAL] property in the style
style "theme-menubar" If your theme doesn't have this style, scroll down to the bottom of the gtkrc and see what style has been applied to
class "*MenuBar*"

Hopefully that should be what needs changed :)

I'm going to adapt the elementary metacity theme for use in Futurelooks 3.3 (which will also include the elementary icons (I've asked permission to use/adapt them). Yes, it looks like OSX at the moment, this is because I haven't added the original buttons in yet. But, as you can see, the base is there and looks a lot nicer than the previous incarnation.
Now all I need to do is figure out how on earth to adapt elementary's metacity to use the futurelooks icons. I'm also having to fight the ridiculous ".theme" file which refuses to acknowledge the existence of the metacity theme at all.

I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how this'll all turn out (hopefully) - DanRabbit (who made the metacity theme for elementary) has shown that you can make decent stuff with metacity after all.

"I can't believe it's not emerald!" :P

So by the time FL3.3 is out, the end-user will have the metacity theme and emerald theme to choose from, each offering a different look - the metacity being more "slab-like" and emerald more transparent.
