run it from the command line to see what error it gives you there.. It may show you what obj, dll etc it is looking for. Use winetricks (a script that will get and install said dlls and objects) install the libs that it is complaining about. cross fingers.

Or you can do a virtualbox fix if you want...

I'm sorry for seeming a bit blunt, but is there a reason why you need IE? What is wrong with firefox?

I agree with you. IE is crap.

I do use it for testing so I can see compatibility with software i write. So I can understand why someone would want to install it.

There are many apps in windows which require IE to be installed or they will not work.

Also a developer may need to see how pages work in IE.

http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page Unfortunately those instructions are extremely outdated (Dapper? Edgy? Feisty?).

I've posted updated instructions (and these have been tested in Jaunty):
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/ies4linux

It is roughly the same procedure, of course.

That's what wine-gecko is for... (the first part)

Firefox is not universal, all sites can be accessed with IE. I prefer Firefox but reality is reality.

There are sites that can only be accessed w/IE, which I am sure you know.
To be blunt why be rude? I would love to not need to use IE but having no choice I also hate to boot into windows ever time *i have to.

Open source is wonderful but it cannot replace windows 100% by any any stretch of the imagination.
Belittling people for using a certain os is about as bright as telling them they are stupid to drive a ford or a Volvo because you prefer a Yugo.

Instead of the attitude you have you should welcome newcomers if you ever want open source to be more than an extreme minority platform.

To be blunt why be rude? I would love to not need to use IE but having no choice I also hate to boot into windows ever time *i have to. There are other reasons, too. If you are a web designer (by trade or by hobby), you want to be able to see how your site will render in Internet Explorer, since a lot of people (if not a bare majority) use that browser to view websites.

Open source is wonderful but it cannot replace windows 100% by any any stretch of the imagination. You forgot to put a for me (meaning you) in that sentence.

For me and for many others, Linux does completely replace Windows 100% with no stretch of the imagination.

Wow massive resurrection of this thread.
I was not being rude, I was simply asking why he needed IE. And Open Source CAN replace Windows 100%, if you are not a gamer. I am not by any means belittling him. I'm not sure what you meant by that. Next time, don't resurrect 6 month old threads.

Cheers.
