Just download (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.0.10&os=linux&lang=en-US) the tar, extract it to a folder, cd to it and run the firefox binary.

I have spent the whole morning trying to get this to work but it's impossible, I have created a folder in a usb flash disk, with the extracted and profile files but when I launch firefox from this usb flash folder it opens my home system firefox profile.
I can only get it to open with deferent profiles if I make the profile in desktop.
