There are no obstacles to run Ubuntu One on older releases - at least File sync part of it. I guess that some new features (tight integration with applications?) wouldn't work but file syncing shouldn't be a problem.

It probably more that the developers want to focus on the current and future releases. Limited time, Limited resources, etc...

There is a range of alternatives out there, it doesn't have to be Ubuntu One.
Adrive (http://www.adrive.com/) looks to be one of the cheaper options just now.

I'm using it on my 8.04 LTS. I'm running 9.04 as a virtual machine, and Ubuntu One is working just fine.

Thank you all i'm now running 9.04 with ubuntu one on it and
