Can you play oblivion on ubuntu? If so how?

Yes, indeed you can. And it plays quite well.
You must use wine, the newest version is preferred. You will also have to use a restricted driver for your video card, shouldn't matter if it's ati or nvidia.

It gives alot of in-depth install information for it, but I found that I could just install it, use a couple regedit tweaks (fbo, and video ram) and it works fine for me despite a couple graphic glitches and a crash every once in a while, so save often. I'm using a Radeon 4850.
