I cant think of any right now but You should definitely get Gnome-Do.It opens you apps much quicker.There is even a theme for it called docky.Which changes it into a dock.

Unfortunately for Gnome users, the best apps are KDE/QT apps.

Koffice (powerful but not as cumbersome as OpenOffice)
Kaffeine (great video player)
There are just tons of apps for KDE that are great. Many I have left out here. The nice thing about KDE is that most of these come pre-installed.
