Crash on install

I was trying to install Kubuntu yesterday and during the install it got to about 85% and said 'setting up local time' or something like that, then the screen goes blank. It sat for about 30 minutes then I hit the space bar (hoping for verbose mode) and a screen full of "IO error" showed up and the installer quit.

Ubuntu starts but there are very few apps and everything looks wierd (display wasnt setup). My nvidia drivers were installed but i couldnt enable them.

I imagine the problem is whatever came after 'setting up local time.'

I had already run the 'verify cd for errors' or whatever that option is.

Any ideas on what this is?

I guess the best thing is to just do a full reinstall and see whether your problem is systematic.

Just to be sure, you could run memtest, to see if you have any corrupt RAM. On a laptop, overheating during installing can be an issue.

I tried this twice with the same result. The MD5 checks out. Memtest was negative. Its not a laptop, CD drive is fine.

Quite honestly im just going to go back to PCLinuxOS... I was excited though :S

PS: It was 9.04 if anyone cares.
