What distro would you be using if ubuntu ceased development or just didn't exist?

I think i would be using either Fedora or Mandriva

I would continue using Arch.

actually i'm not sure what i would use - it's like having to decide who to marry instead if my wife disappeared.

I would use either debian or another debian based distro, i prefer the .deb package and apt to any other.

I would probably use either ArchLinux or Fedora... not sure which.

I don't use Ubuntu anymore, but openSUSE seems to be doing interesting things and unlike Fedora it's not overly political.

I'd probably go back to either Arch or Debian. But it would depend on how 'bleeding edge' I was feeling that day.

Debian, obviously.

For me, I'd jump to Debian, or maybe consider Gentoo.

I couldn't return to Mandriva... no no.

Well, surely, if Ubuntu was no longer being developed, the community could at least keep the repositories open so that they still get the necessary updates and all. :)

Although I do like Ubuntu, I would probably go for CentOS, openSUSE, Fedora or Mandriva should Ubuntu not be developed anymore AND the repositories shut down.

I'd either use Archlinux or roll my own. In fact, I'm doing both of these things right now. :P

Windows 7, then 8, then 9...isn't it obvious?

That bunch of hippies knows nowt.

Debian. Just recently switched anyways, although I love them both, for very different reasons.

Hmm... this is an interesting question.

If Ubuntu had not existed at the time I started using it, I probably would have continued using Windows Vista, considering Ubuntu was the first distro I used.

Now, if Ubuntu were to halt or cease development, I'd probably have to try a whole bunch of distros before I finally got comfortable with one.

No specific distro, but I would go with a Debian based rolling release.

I've considered this move before but I do like Ubuntu, and decided to stick with it and enjoy the dist-upgrades for Alpha testing :D

Crunchbang or Arch.
Fedora, Mandriva, or OpenSUSE.
