Why are these great games not in the repo's

If someone tells me how to make them into deb packages and setup a repo im more than happy to host it on my server. But I wana check first that no one else has already done it, to avoid wasting time :)

I've been playing around with the game (Racer) for the past couple of weeks. It's really quite amazing! All I could find was a somewhat outdated version on a LOCI site (via. http://www.racer.nl , you can also find the source there). It seems to be pretty well supported with all kinds of new cars and tracks.

And best of all, the creators really focused on keeping it REAL! (literally, it uses pretty solid physics to calculate how the wheel sticks to the road, how much torque the engine can apply to the wheels over a wide range of RPMs, car body roll, and an insane amount more.) I think that if more people give this game a try, it could really take off. There is also a site with extra Cars and Tracks (see http://www.racer-xtreme.com ) If someone knows how and/or has access to the Breezy repositories.... PLEASE INCLUDE RACER! :D

Note: I imagine a few gamers out there will load it up and be disappointed that you can't go 80-bajilion miles/hour around the curves and keep it on the road. Keep in mind that this is a realisitic professional driving simulator. enjoy!

Racer is not free software and vdrift has likely not been packaged yet.

Hmm.. I really thought it was free. This is the first thing you see if you visit Racer's webiste. (http://www.racer.nl).

"Racer is a free cross-platform car simulation project (for non-commercial use), using professional car physics papers to achieve a realistic feeling. Cars, tracks and such can be created relatively easy (compared to other, more closed, driving simulations). The 3D and other file formats are, or should be, documented. Editors and support programs are also available to get a very customizable and expandable simulator. OpenGL is used for rendering."

It's copyrighted by the creators, but they include this in their license....

"Use of any of the published source code in commercial software is explicilty NOT allowed without prior written permission. Distributions on Linux distributions (as is done on SuSE8.0 for example) IS however allowed. Use of (parts of) the source code in non-commercial software is allowed however. For commercial usage, licensing may be an option, for which you can contact the author."

seems like it IS free but they just dont want commercail users. Which i spose i can understand they dont want others to profit of their work . Tho i thought they could have done this under one of the GPL's to avoid confusion.

How hard is it to get a games repo goin?

I agree to adding it. It would make everything so much easier to run.

I also want to pleas somebody to add it. Despite the installer it does not work absolutely properly, I think adding a good version into repositories could fix it.

1. This thread is around 9 months old.

2. The installer for both titles work fine.

3. If you have interest in packaging any software for the ubuntu community, please do so then contact the appropriate person(s) for info on getting it included.

4. You can find vdrift on getdeb's game section: http://www.getdeb.net/category.php?id=3
As well as in Treviņo’s Ubuntu Repository: http://3v1n0.tuxfamily.org/dists/feisty/3v1n0/
