I found the following to be of interest:

"In addition to 8.04, we chose to control our updates (via our own update repository -- similar to MS update). We go the extra mile in double qualifying all updates (that one would see in stock 8.10 and 9.04) and only publish those that are rock-stable. We will [put in] select features over the course of the year that make sense for the product, like wireless improvements," according to Dell spokespersons.

I guess this makes sense with a product like the Mini netbook. Plus, it would appear to reflect a continuing commitment by Dell to Ubuntu.

I hope it doesn't mean that we cannot install anything other than qualified by Dell.

Nope. There rarely is a problem with hardware intended for linux use.

As long as you've still got the 8.04 cd from Dell (or can burn a copy), try 9.04 plus the medibuntu mods. The normal gotcha is the sound not working on the minis (I am running 9.04 netbook remix on a mini9 and 9.04 on an Inspiron 1505 with an Intel wireless chip).

I guess no one saw that the Latitude 2100 comes with 8.10. #-o
