I've searched the nethack official guide, a couple of faqs, and even on these forums and can' tfigure it out. Where the heck do is the config file for nethack?

I want to change the default config (colored ASCII and colored menus) to a non-colored version so I can look less conspicuous "taking a break" at work, but I can't find the config file I have to change. I suppose I can make a new one, but where would I put it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i was about to suggest nethack-gnome package available in the repos... but i guess it would seem even worse... try whereis nethack... and see from there

There's a file, nethackrc.tty, located in /etc/nethack/ that allows you to make your configurations.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. Ascension, here I come!

No problem. That file was the first thing I looked for after installing Nethack; I can't get used to the default controls, and use numpad instead.

Good luck on the ascension!

The user level resource config file for nethack is called ~./.nethackrc

You won't have one unless you create it.
