There is a treat about opening Xubuntu subsection here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=101772
And I'm opening a poll see how many Xfce4 users are there.

A few months ago the Xubuntu team contacted us about hosting their forum. At the time they were not ready for release and were going to contact us when they were ready.
So I assume when they are ready and if plans have not changed they will contact us and we can get it setup for them.

One vote for XFCE (xfwm4 as a WM, but the whole shebang with xubuntu).
I do love all the gnome utilities, but for day to day work I've found comfort in XFCE.
Looking forward to a Xubuntu themed forum should it come.

I'm insulted. You didn't even include a "other." So horrible. I use fluxbox. The majority of the polls I've seen don't even include fluxbox, but at least include an other option... How ignorant.

majikstreet:) I know there are other window managers but they can't just be filled in other section because of their importance for their users.

I voted gnome+xfce because xfce4 is really nice if your pc doesn't have enough power to run gnome smoothly

I'd go for XFCE, but it doesn't seem to be well supported or used by as many as Gnome.
Plus, the Automatix script doesn't work - I wrecked a few installs of XFCE trying to manually hunt down all the packages, binaries and source for the add-on stuff I wanted and wound up sticking to Gnome on my wife's machine.
When I get my "hobby machine" I will definitely make it an Xubuntu install. At least then, I won't have Mrs. Onos pulling my ear about why she can't use xyz program that she had in M$ Windows.

there is some problem with the xfce that ships with ubuntu cuz its even slower than gnome on my computer.
there should be iceubuntu cuz icewm is the least resource intensive window manager there is.

Xubuntu all the way. i voted Gnome+Xfce because i use xfce as my window manager but run a significant amount of gnome apps on it. i think they should definately add a Xubuntu forum.

Xubuntu forum - yes please! ASAP!!
Liked gnome but it is too heavy for my machine; now the more I use xfce the more I like it. :)

PII 333Mhz 6hKB 8GB.
My machine was previously running Win 98, which was becoming very unstable (eg I had to go into DOS to delete!). The final straw came at Christmas when I got an iPod and discovered that iTunes will only install on Win2K+.
So...after a lot of time and stress and frustration, I finally got Ubuntu installed, plus a later version of gtkpod that would rad from 5th Gen iPods. Only...the thing was so damned slow! I'd click on something, go make a cup of tea, and by the time I'd finished drinking it, a window might have opened.
I was considering reinstalling Windows when, just in time, I discovered the Low End Support wiki and xcfe. I've been a lot happier since then.:)

btw
I use Gnome with KDE's window manager.
A desktop enviroment (Gnome, KDE, XFCE) and a window manager (Metacity, Kwin, Openbox, Fluxbox, etc.) are not the same thing.

I've been running Gnome and Blackbox on the side. I installed Xfce just 2 days ago so I don't want to vote until I check it out better.
So far it looks OK, there are a few nice features.
Though, I've always been a wm *****, I love checking new ones out - don't know why? Before migrating completely over to Linux I ran Litestep ( a very light windows manager for windows) and bblean (blackbox port for windows).
By the way Blackbox is the worlds fastest wm (it loads in about 1 second on my computer from gdm) and not ice or flux. I've tried them all.

I voted Gnome+Kde because I am using Gnome as my DE and Kwin as my WM. I never liked metacity. It just seems too limited in it's options and effects. Now I don't have to switch to KDE and all of it's clutter to enjoy the effects and eye candy it offers.

I tried KDE on Knoppix, but it was Ubuntu's Gnome that sold me on Ubuntu. (I had some prior experience with Gnome on a FC2 box but Ubuntu is way better)
I have several older machines that are too weak for Ubuntu, I'd like to try to install Xubuntu on them as soon as an 'official' release is supported.

I believe the Ubuntu-Lite project uses IceWM as it's desktop default
