so ok, I bought UT3 like a year ago, because there was gonna be a linux client.........
but thats pretty much not going to happen now obviously. so after the looking at the Cedega site and seeing that it says you can play it, I was wondering is it worth the money? I know they used to suck, but have they improved any?

It should just work in Wine for free, no need to buy Cedega.

You might be in luck getting it working in wine/cedega. The general consensus is that if you've got nVidia graphics, you stand a chance. Unfortunately my AMD 4870 has no such luck. )o:
So, short answer: Probably yes with cedega + nVidia
Possibly yes with wine + nVidia + lots of hacking around finding dx10 dlls and changing registry settings
Probably no with anything + AMD/Ati

I know the ATi pain bro :(
Wine has only just started with DX10 implementation, so I dont think hunting for those dlls would be very helpful. Anyway the visual difference between DX9 and DX10 is so minimal its almost pointless trying to get it working that way. Cedega seems the only way to go, but they have such a bad rep, Im cautious to hand the money over if Im gonna get shafted on customer support.
And the Spore trial isnt exactly the most convincing demo to try it with, especially when enabling AA causes a black screen of death. Which is pretty crappy when AA and AF work pretty flawlessly in WIne.
So I guess Im asking this question to anyone whose played UT3 in Cedega, is it any good? does it support SLI? IS the customer support still crap?

My bad , I just saw it.
Here's the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_3) quote which I'm sure you've seen already.
The Linux and Mac OS X versions of the game are planned to be released as downloadable installers that work with the retail disc. As of April 2009, this is yet to be released. However, Ryan Gordon has uploaded screenshots of the game running on both platforms.[8][9]
I understand if you've lost patience or faith.

Yeah, I have lost faith. The issue holding back its release is apparently a legal one to do with SpeedTree. Maybe they dont like linux and mac, who knows, maybe Microsoft has a controlling share in them...

Forget UT3. If it comes out for Linux then I'll buy a few copies. Quake 4 runs natively and it runs great. I've been having lots of fun going through the single player campaign. I haven't tried the multilayer (yet) but if it's anything like the single player then it's going to be tons of fuN :D

I know it's not native but my biggest hook with gaming in linux has been counterstrike source under WINE. I know it's not native. Believe me, I wish it were.
Even Urban Terror doesn't come close to the tactical fighting I enjoy in CSS. Urban Terror feels more like Quake with a CSS look to it. sorta :D

I play ET:Quakes Wars a LOT. If your refering to RTCW, I only play that when Im bored (or got my *** badly kicked at QW ;D). And yeah native linux gaming sucks, but Wine is awesome, and makes thing far better.

Im probably the only pc gamer who has never played counterstrike. Ive never even seen it running. My friends/family/mrs all pretty much play WoW exclusively, although a few of them play FFXI under Wine, which can be a PITA.
As for Urban Terror, it refused to let me connect to servers, and I just couldnt be arsed to look for a fix. I just ended up running round in the training, shooting the walls in boredom.

Just going to throw my 2 pence in here, I have both Cedega and Wine installed on my system. Wine runs many of my applications well, how ever there are a few games, Left 4 Dead is the main one, that runs much better frame rate under Cedega than Wine. I have not personally tried UT3 (I do not own a copy) but I know they have a built in profile for it meaning it should work well on most systems.

The only reason I don't play WoW is the monthly fee. It bugs me I need to pay for a game I already bought. and pay, and pay.... I like the model from valve where I can build my own server and share with other's. If I had the bandwidth (not crappy 1.5 Meg dsl) then I would throw one up a few servers myself :-)
I heard savage is pretty good and I just bought Neverwinter Nights for Linux. Even downloaded the linux server. Might toss one up just for home use. My kids are bugging me to buy a few more copies so they can play now :-)
UrbanTerror worked great for me. I was able to get it up and running in a few minutes. Still CSS has something that just keeps bringing me back :-)

Does the customer support still suck?
