So i have been trying to figure out it its worth buying a tv tuner for the computer. I last used one years and years ago. It was never good quality and full of snow.

For linux are there any PCI-e or USB tuners that work with good quality? (to me good quality is the same picture quality as an old fashioned 50$ tv off of craigslist)

if so is there one anyone would suggest? preferably under 70$

ive got a pentium 4 2.8ghz 2gb ram integrated video on motherboard

T.V. Tuners are much better now. However the more you pay the better they will be. As far as Linux goes anything should work. You may want to cruise the forums to look for any incapability issues. You should still be able to make it work but it may be a pain.

I used to have a USB one for $60 but it couldn't do real time at all. The live screen kind of looked like someone's face on COPS. You'll probably pay at least $150 for a good one.

I would go with a pci-e tuner. I would think all usb tuners must compress the video (reducing quality) in order to work with the usb interface. A pci tuner, at least the older ones without hardware compression and probably the those too simply display what the tuner feeds to them without compression.
