Just installed Jaunty on my friends notebook. But can't update the software sources. The following is the terminal o/p.

sean@sean-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get update
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the list directory
sean@sean-laptop:~$

Any inputs!!??

Is synaptic or any other package manager already running? Only one of the package managers (apt/apt-get/aptitude/synaptic/update manager) can run at a time.

If you are clueless, reboot and try the update command.

No other package manager is working atm. No matter from where I try to do the package update it fails. The FS is an EXT4 just in case it matters.

It doesn't matter. Did you reboot and tried again as I suggested?

Logged in root (GUI) and it seems to be working.
