I found an interesting article on C-Net that the US Government is going to help secure open source code. I wonder if I should be a little suspicious though. Could this be an attempt to inject DRM into open source? Here is a link to the article.

What are some of your thoughts on this?

It's still gonna be open source though the GPL will make sure of that. This is hardly new though SELinux was released by the NSA a while ago and there are a few guides/patches on the NSA site for Linux. There is a big movement in the government to help end users secure their systems. When I was taking my computer crime class we were watching a video on how the government is concerned with cyber attacks and cyber terrorism (still not clear what it is), they also mentioned how the insecure end user systems are making the information infrastructure of the country more vulnerable than it has to be.
