I use Ubuntu for everything! Well, everything except my music production. I have to boot into Windows XP so that i can use Reason and Ableton live.

Long story short, I'm looking for alternatives to these programs. I do synthesized instrument recordings via Reason with midi, and I compose my works as well as record raw audio in Ableton.

What should I do?
Also, what steps can I take to assure that my audio setup doesn't give me hell?!

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help!!!

i reckon you'll need a combination of rosegarden, ardour and lmms.

I agree with simtaalo.

I love Ableton Live. Can't get it to work via Wine :(

The biggest issues will likely be hardware interfaces. What are you using?

For my personal use I do guitar thru a Line6 Guitarport. Latency is super low and the sound is great! I got mine for $99.

If you are planning to upgrade hardware interfaces or if you have non yet, just do some research and get pieces that are standards compliant or have Linux support.

Best of Luck!!

also at this time (and for a while into the future) you will find nothing in linux that is as functional as ableton, pains me to say so but its the truth.
