I'm a moron - restarting ubuntu provided this feature

Hi all,

I'm running ubuntu as a media server, using a digital projector as the main screen. In order to avoid having to have the projector on for little jobs, like playing some music or adjusting configurations, I've set up a wall-mounted secondary TFT monitor, with the output cloned using TwinView.

For watching movies and tv, I use XBMC in fullscreen in a custom x session. I'm a bit of a command line junkie, so when I need to change something (like, for example, the system volume) during the custom session I tend to just hop over to a virtual terminal and do it there. Of course, with the display cloning at the X level, I can't see my terminal output on both monitors.

Is there any way to tell Ubuntu that it has two monitors at a lower level than X11, or to otherwise forward non-X11 video output to both/all monitors?
