An example of quick summary can be found here:
http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/567179/

Note the second row (row under topic starter). It's a wiki which allows all users to edit. This is a great timesaver.

Suppose if the topic starter states a problem and it is solved on page 9 of the topic. When the topic starter confirms that the solution is correct, they can edit the quick summary with the solution so future users can find it much quicker.

This is even more true because even after the solution is confirmed, many other users may reply to the topic with other circumstances (such as "this solution didn't work on kubuntu 5.10" or "i'm not using stock kernel"). This is why future users cannot always go to the end of the topic for the solution.

This will be a huge incentive for people to search for similar problems they are having rather than "double post". This saves everybody time.

Quick summary can even have multiple solutions to the problem.

Spam of course, can be an issue, but isn't it always an issue? if we were worried about spam, we wouldn't have wiki.ubuntu.com either! Quick Summary of course requires logging in first, just like the forums to post.

I've already sent an email to fatwallet asking for code. What do you think?

I've already sent an email to fatwallet asking for code.

unfortunately, the code is proprietary, and they are unable to open it. Looks like we gotta get back to writing code! I'm excited... hey admin, where's the code at?

Just added a reply to another thread (How do you mark something Solved? (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=645442&postcount=7)). Described there what I'm having in mind. It seems quite similar to the "Quick Summary"-thing -- just add a little pressure on the users to make them fill this after satisfying answeres/ultimate frustration... There's nothing as annoying as reading many helpful suggestions without knowing if any of them lead the thread starter to success.

See the link above for a more lengthy elaboration...

Sorry for cross-posting, but I feel honoured to be invited by ghee22 to do so!
