You'll probably get better help in the Multimedia Production section.

Try Hydrogen, I know that it is a drum-machine, so I don't know if it can save scores.

Look here: http://musescore.org/

If you are running 8.04 it will be in the repositories.

There's also Denemo (http://www.denemo.org/index.php/Main_Page) and Rosegarden (http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/)

There is also Finale but it is a commercial program. My son says it is available for Linux. He uses the Windows version for his drumming stuff.

Finale isn't available for Linux, but apparently it runs OK using WINE. I think MuseScore is probably your best option.

Finale is hard work for little return.
Hydrogen is pattern based.
Rosegarden is midi based
