Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a Meerkat NetTop from system 76 and using it as a dedicated Boxee box. Has anyone else done this, and do you have any suggestions? I'm not quite sure how to clone the monitor output to S-video, and would love some help :)
*I assume this is possible to do.

I'm not sure what decoder boxee uses but you may need to add a ppa repository for a multithreaded mplayer decoder if you intend to watch any 720p on that.

boxee uses FFmpeg plus support for many other video formats.
There are some problems with using the meerkat. One s-video digitally speaking peaks out at around 480i resolution. Higher ones can be pushed out but signal loss will start to happen.
VGA is the better choice, but for hooking up to an HDTV and getting up to 1080p you will need a converter box. They run from 1-2 hundred dollars. That is unless your TV already has VGA. Most come with DVI and HDMI
Th GMA 950 can handle HD content, but when it comes to video decoding the Atom just wont do.
So if you stick clear on HD content. At least 720p 1080p stuff you should be ok.
Something with a little more power would better suit your needs. Although the Meerkat does have a great price.
I say the Macmini is the better choice for a dedicated boxee box. Team boxee seems to prefer Mac, plus you will have silverlight too!
Summed up Meerket will work minus HD stuff, but Mac Mini in this case would be better.
