Does anyone know a way to find and play this particular Amiga game on ubuntu? The name is "Kick Off" (also had a player-manager version which I was in LOVE with) and it's a soccer game...
Thanks...

thanks for the emulator :)

and does anyone know where to get the game ("Kick Off") itself?? I just cannot find a place to get it (preferably download)...

EDIT: I got these two links from wikipedia (love it), but need time to figure out what to do with them...

You'll need the Kick Start rom image and the rom of the game itself (usually a .adf)

UAE is fantastic :D

I'm playing my childhood game!! now that's cool (or I'm becoming a geek)

And for others, I see that repos have uae amiga emulator but I went to their site (above post) and got the binary, untarred it and just did ./uae in the directory where I untarred it. and the emulator opened up. no installation, no compilation. but you will need an Amiga ROM to work this thing. Depending on your country, you can either download it or purchase it (copyright issues as usual). I personally prefered to wait some time...

than you go to www.ko-gathering.com/wiki/index.php?title=Download and get the adf image file (the emulator sees this as a floppy) and use the image from inside the emulator to play the game. very simple. their wiki faq page also has some nice information.

again, cool.

for those geeks who'd like to know, this game is from Dino Dini & Anco. Copyright belongs to Dino Dini but he apparently doesn't care what you do with the software (as long as it is kept alive).

PS. what if someone reprogrammed this as a 3D Linux-only socer game... wish I were a programmer... and have a 3d working ati card ;)

Yeah, I was going to tell ya about UAE in the repositories, but forgot. Doesn't matter anyhow, it's a much older version.

Glad to hear you got it working, and welcome to true geekdom :D I myself have a full library of games for the Atari 8-bit. Most of the old games from the 8-bit and 16-bit days are what are called abandonware, they are semi-legal in most cases, but I don't see many lawsuits happening on old games for hardware that rarely runs anymore.

Yeah Kick Off is great, but even better is Kick Off II (Dont go for the 'extra time', because the goalies are way too good). I wrote a howto on installing e-uae Amiga Emulator on dapper, which you can read here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=201396.

Take Care
