I have a laptop and I am very happy with it. it's a T43P of IBM.
It does everything I need, I love it And I really not going to replace it.
In the year 2005, I decided to stop using windows and to start using linux only. After I tries several distributions, I decided to use Ubuntu and that's the only dist for me from 2005.
I have troubles here and there, not everything is always work out of the box, but I manage my way all this years because never mind what was the problems, I prefer it over the windows alternative. every 6 months I format my computer and install the new version (It's a good motivation for me to clean stuff I don't use so I am choosing format and not upgrade).
Like always I switch to 9.04, and I am not going to switch back.
IBM did the choice for me and gave me some years ago the ATI FIREGL V3200 graphic card in my laptop, so I can't actually replace it.
Since 9.04, ATI decided to stop support my graphic card, I don't have a choice but to use the open source drivers.
One of the things I love mostly is to see in my ubuntu movies, especially 720p or 1080p movies. Usually I install the boxee program, to manage my movies library.
But since I must use the open source drivers I cant do that simple things - I cant watch 720p or 1080p movies. It's so slow... If I try to watch it with mplayer I get blue screen and no picture, If I switch to another video engeine (other than xv) its take 100% cpu on 720p or 1080p movies and the sound and picture is not match what makes it unwatchable.
and boxee? I cant use it, because the open source drivers don't have yet 3d support.
and all I want is just to see a movie...
