I'm using an HP Pavilion dv9750ej laptop, with an Intel HDA card.
The headphone-speaker switching generally works (if the headphones are plugged in, the speakers are muted), except for one caveat- Rebooting or unmuting using the mute button seems to reset the speakers, they get unmuted and stay that way until I disconnect and reconnect the headphones.
I've tried to specify various model names in alsa-base, as suggested in several threads, but none of them helped.
What can I do to make the switching survive unmutings and take effect as soon as the system starts? Failing that, how can I mute the speakers and make it stick until I tell them otherwise?
Edit: Setting the front volume to the lowest possible setting keeps the speakers at a barely audible level even if they get unmuted, but it's not an elegant solution. I want to do better than that.
