View Full Version : [ubuntu] Which wireless network card will work with Jaunty out of the box?

I'm looking to buy a new wireless PCI card (for my desktop) and want to know which one (if any) will work with Jaunty 9.04 right out of the box. I know virtually nothing about this sort of thing, so I can't fiddle around with a lot of technical adjustments to get it working. I checked the list at

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported

but it seems like a list of instructions for people who already have wireless cards and want to get them working. I just want to buy a new card that will work right away. (I don't have a wired connection to the machine I want to install this card in, so I won't be able to download any drivers or anything to make it work.)

Any suggestions?

Back in the day, Intel Pro Wireless 2200 was a great out-of-the-box wireless card. Do they still sell those?

I don't know the exact model, but the Atheros wireless card in my Eee PC 701 works out of the box with Jaunty.

I checked the list also, my card info has not been updated since 2007. I have a Dell e1505 with the miniPCI1390. I am just running on the LiveCD right now, but I can not get it to work. I have read other treads that say to disable the BIOS hotkeys (done), but still won't enable the card.

I want to get the card working so I can try out the new version.
