Sirs,

I have an old toshiba laptop 2255XCDS installed with dapper drake which worked fine with the driver "vesa" parameter. The video adapter is identified as "Trident Cybersystems 9525".

After installing xubuntu 8.10 there is a bar at the bottom of the screen which I cannot correct even with the "vesa" parameter.
I tried editing the xorg.conf but its no use I can't get rid of the bar at the bottom of the screen.

Please I need the answer to this questions:

Is this machine too old to be installed with xubuntu 8.10 ?

Please can somebody explain the proper procedure to set up the video adapter in xubuntu 8.10 ?

Thanks in advance,

Sirs,

There is no need to answer this post anymore.
First I misspelled the name of the video adapter, sorry about that.
I got to the conclusion that there is no videoconfig-gtk in xubuntu 8.10 so there is no support for beginners trying to configure the video adapter.

After changing the xorg.conf on a trial and error basis I get a working resolution by setting the depth of the screen.

Thanks anyway,
