I am installing Ubuntu Server Edition right now and will then install the KDE on top.

This is a test PC and looking to see if I can get a free version of Novel eDirectory installed. I only need this to do some testing in one of our web applications that allows users to login using an LDAP authentication. It is a Windows web app.

I tested our web app using MS Active Directory but would like to test eDirectory, if free.

I saw posts about OpenLDAP but not sure if the same.

Questions:
1.can I get and install free eDirectory on (K)Ubuntu Server, how?
2.if not, easiest way to download and install OpenLdap. Once installed I need a GUI to create some dummy user accounts and then perform my test using our web app.

Novel edirectory is not freeware. For information on eDirectory see http://www.novell.com/products/edirectory/.

The alternative is Open LDAP and it is free open source.

eBox is a middle ware product and not ready for production use. Search this forum for eBox and read the comments. If they do get eBox right it would be great. I would consider it beta test at this point.

thanks guys, looks like you can download an evaluation copy for Linux, not sure how long it lasts though.

Will check into OpenLdap, how easy is to get this installed on a Kubuntu Server Edition, can you send me the sudo apt-get command to install it?
