GNU cash Expenses show up as profits

Hi I am a new user to GNU cash, and I set up everything from May 1st on and when i added some transactions I noticed that my expenses as of now total up to $171... however at they show up as black, and at the bottom it says profit 171, did I do something wrong?

I went to my credit card page, and I debited a charge to my credit card (say $33) then I would credit it to the Expenses:dining account but now the expenses account is considered positive cash flow.

I am confused.. I am wanting to use it for budgeting purposes, but I guess i set something up wrong.

I may have a solution to this problem. Is the dollar amount listed as "profit" in parenthesis? example $(15.00). if so, it is displaying a negative. when the dollar amount is positive the parenthesis with no longer be displayed. example $15.00. When I first started with this program I thought the same thing as you. Hope that this helped.
