I'm trying to decide the best way to install ubuntu studio 9.04
I've been using U-Studio Gusty which I updated from a standard Gusty install. I assume it's possible to do the same thing with a Jaunty live cd & then updating to U-Studio through the repos. I'm just a little nervous about manual partitioning with the alternate CD. So my question is what steps are needed to update from ubuntu 9.04 to u-studio 9.04.
If anyone feels it would be better to install straight from the u-studio cd then maybe you can point me to some sort of step by step partitioning instruction.

Unless there are additional partitions required for Ubuntu Studio (not sure) or unless you want more partitions, chances are that you can leave them as they are (anyone, feel free to correct me). The first step of the partitioning process on an install is that the current partitions are displayed before moving forward.

My upgrade strategy is to use two disks so I always have the last system I available if things go wrong. I do a fresh install onto the disk that doesn't carry my most recent system. And bring the files across as I need them. (usually I bring the Home folder across in one go but leave a copy of the files (you as a sort of backup). This ensures that I always have one working system at a given time.

I'm trying to figure this out aswell. I installed Ubuntu Studio 9.04 multiple times, but I had odd issues with it constantly freezing after a few minutes of use (if I didn't finish the install fast enough, it froze). I installed vanilla Ubuntu 9.04 to find out if there was an issue there, and I haven't had a single one.

All the information I've found about upgrading is for different versions, I'm unsure how it's all supposed to work out.

After a regular install you can just get the UbuntuStudio meta packages with Synaptic package manager. That's what I do.

It's a pretty big download so keep that in mind. (It took an hour on my DSL just for the studio-audio stuff)

I can't find what you mention in Synaptic, help?
