First of all, forgive me if this isn't in the right section.

Food for thought: with EA performing an assault on the exclusive lisencing of all sport-related organizations, has there been any talk of an open source NFL game, or anything of the like? I'm actually kind of interested to see if the open source community could pull something like this off.

I believe sports gaming is not a first priority in linux community (for windows, it is)... As an example, there is no nice soccer games, only one nice soccer manager game, etc.

The license problems (if you use the team names and player names then GPL it, you will probably get into trouble) don't make it easier either.

I guess a good GPL'ed linux sports games would have to use random player names (if not random team names)...

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Anyone know of a good baseball/baseball manager game for Linux?

Yeah, I don't see it working either. In baseball, for instance (the only sport with which I am very familiar), the licencing is done by the player's union, and they just signed an exclusive agreement with ESPN Sports. Which pisses me off; the EA baseball games are consistently better, IMHO.
