Just tried using bluetooth to connect to my phone today (only had Kubuntu a few days now) and it worked, first time, no problems.
Which is amazing, considering that under XP the first time I put the bluetooth chip in it caused a BSOD, then after booting in safe mode and installing it I got another BSOD when logging in, then went back to safe mode and did restore, tried again, and again.. In the end, I'd tried 3 different programs for doing it, 4 different drivers (all supposed to support my BT chipset), and none worked.
In the end I managed to get it working using MS's built in programs, a driver from some website I found, and even then it only did file transfer.

Today, I turn on my phone's bluetooth, go to Konqueror and go to remote places, click bluetooth, click on my phone's name, and I'm already able to browse the files; transfer works without a hitch; there's an option for dialup networking, I can use it as a headset or use my computer as the headset for it's calls...

I was shocked that it just worked, first time, no problems, and far far quicker than windows ever managed :)

It's the first thing like this to work without needing me to download anything extra, no editing config files... it's great :D

All in all, done perfectly and better than windows ever managed.
It's things like this that remind me why I swapped to linux :D

I thought having an unlimited data plan combined with my little computer bluetooth adapter would be perfect. I could just take my adapter with me, and get online on any computer that didn't come with an internet connection: pretty handy for repairing a computer. Since all the new windows xp sp2 computers come with bluetooth support from microsoft, I thought well that's the icing on the cake. I don't even need to bring a driver disk! Well, so I thought....

I'd never had bluetooth dialup networking work on XP.... ever. For example, I would tell it to connect to my phone, and then it would thoughtfully tell me it discovered a new bluetooth device, and needed me to input my bt key. Umm, I already paired with the device and set up a key. Why is it asking me again? It's not new: I just connected and paired it with a key, browsed its services and checked off DUN. Is windows prone to short term memory loss?

At first, I thought this would be a minor annoyance: I'd put in my key again and get online. Nope, that would be easy, user oriented, well programmed. No, upon reinserting my key, it forgot my phone had DUN!

I sat there, going into angry convulsions as windows forgot my device, and then forgot what services it had. The ironic thing is, DUN was set up just fine, but as soon as you hit the dial button, it forgets the device exists! This is one of the few moments I felt like punching whoever designed the bluetooth software for windows.

If you can get DUN working on linux, that to me, puts microsoft to shame. I wanted to say that linux was better than windows in this regard, but I didn't think you could do DUN on linux. Thanks for bringing that up! Now I got another reason for showing off ubuntu/kubuntu. Is there a gnome equivilent? I could use either, but I just thought I'd ask.

sorry to be stupid but by DUN, do you mean dial up networking?
