CVE-2009-1364

Description:
================================================== ========= Ubuntu Security Notice USN-769-1 May 04, 2009 libwmf vulnerability CVE-2009-1364 ================================================== ========= A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases: Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Ubuntu 8.10 Ubuntu 9.04 This advisory also applies to the corresponding versions of Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Xubuntu. The problem can be corrected by upgrading your system to the following package versions: Ubuntu 6.06 LTS: libwmf0.2-7 0.2.8.3-3.1ubuntu0.2 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS: libwmf0.2-7 0.2.8.4-6ubuntu0.8.04.1 Ubuntu 8.10: libwmf0.2-7 0.2.8.4-6ubuntu0.8.10.1 Ubuntu 9.04: libwmf0.2-7 0.2.8.4-6ubuntu1.1 In general, a standard system upgrade is sufficient to effect the necessary changes. Details follow: Tavis Ormandy discovered that libwmf incorrectly used memory after it had been freed when using its embedded GD library. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a crafted WMF file, an attacker could cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code with privileges of the user invoking the program.
