have had unbuntu for awhile. I installed it on my ancient laptop (think pad). Recently it just froze and popped up an empty error message, required a hard shutdown. Now whenever I go to boot its like a coin toss if it will work. It gives the basic message:
PXE-E61:MEDIA TEST FAILURE, CHECK CABLE
PXE-MOF:EXITING INTEL BOOT AGENT
OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

Seems like most people have this problem upon installation, or if they have a partition. When I set up linux I saved it to use the whole disk. How do I fix this? Please be very detailed, I don't know anything about anything. Thanks

It sounds like your hard drive died.

The PXE stuff is info about a network boot. It would only do that if your hard drive died.

Go into the bios configuration for your thinkpad laptop and look if it sees the hard drive. You need to press F2 (or del. or something like that) at the bios menu to do this.
