ello -looking for advice -- im having Performance issues with Audio Applications - I am running Ubuntu 9.04 - Installed the Ubuntu studio packages via synaptic package manager - I get pretty poor playback performance - for example in Rosegarden - i can start with a kick sample in the mono sampler - then if i add another software synth - playback becomes quite choppy - I attempted to put jack in real time mode - no dice - Jack wont run - not sure if thats my ticket anyway - played around with what i thought was the audio buffer in jack no effect on the performance - seems like it works a little or not at all - I know my computer has enough power - I have a triple boot ubuntu/vista/osx - in both vista and osx i get great performance with Reason and Abelton live considering it's a net book - i heard something about a realtime kernal ?? any suggestions ?? Id love to optimize my system for music production - seems like it could be really cool - maybe im a glutton for punishment - new and uniqe sound hunt never ends for me - any suggestions ??

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess you're using a mac, since you're triple booting windows, mac os, and Ubuntu. Could you describe your hardware a little more?

How is your playback using the generic/original kernel?
