Trouble Starting wicd daemon

I am having problems starting wicd daemon. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but I only get theis same error.

Stopping any running daemons...
Starting wicd daemon...
Errors were encountered while processing:
wicd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
What is error code (1) and how can I get around it?

Seeing I couldn't get it removed and reinstalled, I just ran it like this:
sudo wicd then I ran wicd-client. This worked. I get a network connection at start up, but I can't get the client to run until I run wicd first. I would like this all to happen at startup. How would I do this?
