can't get screensaver to come on in 8.04

I have it set to come on after a minute of idleness, and the screen will fade like it is starting to go into screensaver mode, then jumps right back as if a key was pressed. Something must be keeping it awake, can someone suggest a few ways to narrow down what it might be? Thanks

Hmm.

I'm having the same problem. I set the idle time to 1min to be sure it was the screensaver. After 1min, screen dims to almost black then wakes up again.
