Hi,

I'm trying to write my own OS to gain more insight into how they work "under the hood", I've got what I hope is a small working example. At the moment though, I want to concentrate on my OS and not on writing a bootloader, the closest thing I've found is a FAT12 bootloader, but I don't even own a floppy disk let alone a drive, and mkdosfs wouldn't allow me to format a spare flash drive to FAT12 either.

Can anyone suggest to me either a tutorial on writing a bootloader for these filesystems so I can copy and edit it (shh), or a pre-built bootloader that will be able to load a custom OS? Maybe GRUB can do what I want, but all my attempts last night failed epically so if it is possible, can someone link me to a set of instructions or something to get that working?

Thanks for any help, I really apprechiate it.
