View Full Version : [ubuntu] Can't connect to mysql

I have installed MySQL on Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop. I am unable to connect to mysql from the command line.

What command line statement should I be able to use? That will tell me if I have the user, password, or host wrong. I am doing all of this on localhost. Pinging localhost works.

If I have the password wrong, what do I have to uninstall to be able to reinstall mysql?

I have done all of this before successfully, but I am unable to repeat after reinstalling Ubuntu 8.04.

Thanks,

Dan H.

Your recommendation worked and I can connect to MySQL and look at the databases that come with MySQL.

I can't create my own databases. When I try, either as rood or as debian-sys-maint I get the same error:

ERROR 1006 (HY060) Can't create database (error:13)

I apologize for my slow response to your quick response, but our house was flooded last week -- a bit of a distraction.

Thanks for your help.
