View Full Version : [ubuntu] How do I make a video from my desktop?

I have seen many videos on youtube where it seems that the computer records everything that happens on the desktop. I want to do that for a tutorial. I know there's no camera because you don't see the moving lines in the screen.
Help, please. :D

There is an application I believe in the repo called Istanbul...Never tried it though.

try also "recordmydesktop" from www.getdeb.net, I am using this application and it works fine.

It's in the repositories. No need for 3rd party packages. Also, if you want a UI, check out gtk-recordmydesktop. It's in the repositories. Works wonders, and the UI isn't very hard to use. Check it out.

Thanks, it worked like a charm!
Now, the files goes out in .ogv format, I would like to pass it to something more compatible, the idea is to upload it to youtube and they only accept a few video formats, .ogg it's not one of them. I tried avidemux which is my usual video editor but it doesn't recognize the format.
Any ideas? .mkv or .mp4 are my best choices, keeping quality while saving size.
