Hi all - I upgraded from Mythbuntu 8.10 to 9.04 and it did not upgrade my kernel! Any ideas?

what does "uname -a" tell you
maybe try:
sudo find / -name "*2.6.28-11"
see what comes up, you will know if its known to modules, or just source or something else. I never like doing straight upgrades, its usually better to do a clean install IMO

Yeah, I won't do an upgrade again. I have a couple of 1-TB Maxtor drives on this thing and wanted to avoid having to disconnect my media drive for the re-install. But that's what I may wind up doing anyway. So, I am at work and the system is at the boot prompt at home so I can't ssh to it, but the uname would probably tell us 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP I actually did one this morning before I left and then interrupted the boot sequence to see what grub had to say, and of course, all of the grub entries were 8.10. That could mean that grub just didn't get updated. I will try to get in there at lunch and look for the 2.6.28 kernel with find or locate. Thanks!

Try:
sudo apt-get updateWhat happens? Seems to be working for some.

ok, that's embarrassing... I didn't do an update after the upgrade. I got distracted with the failure of my nVidia drivers, which lead me down the rabbit-hole to the kernel issue. I will do that at lunch time too. Thanks.

And the winner is.... GRUB! I just ran update-grub and it updated the grub menu and boots on 2.6.28-11. Thanks for your thoughts!

Update-grub ran but didn't update my menu.lst
I had to do it manually. FYI.

'startup-manager' is in the repos and that lets you set the number of kernels in the menu.
