64 Studio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64_Studio) is not actually an ubuntu-based distro, it's based on debian (which ubuntu was originally derived from). Its kernel has patches and tweaks & is called a 'real-time' kernel.

To answer your question, you will probably need to change a setting in your motherboard BIOS to set your SATA hard drive to 'legacy' or 'native' or something. If that doesn't work, please look here:

Ubuntu Studio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Studio) is a distribution derived from Ubuntu. Version 9.04 of Ubuntu Studio has a modified kernel scheduler, thus its kernel is called 'low-latency'.
