EDIT: I found an app called KleanSweep in Add/Remove that appears to do what I'm looking for. So you can ignore the following text:

I have a folder with several sub folders filled with hundreds of writings by my girlfriends late father. I need a way to go through all of these documents and try to track down duplicates that may exist in more than one location and see if they're exactly the same or determine if one or more of them are older revisions in certain cases. Is there an easy way of doing this? It kind of reminds me of using Symantec's System Works' Disk Cleanup utility that would look through the entire hard drive for duplicates and allow you to check off the ones you wanted to delete.

Open Nautilus by clicking Places -> Computer and click on the magnifying glass all the way to the right in the icon list. This will let you search for all files with the name you enter.
