Alright, I've scoured the net to see if anyone else has been having the same issue that I have, but I have yet to find anything.

So, here goes my problem with gtkwifi. I have dled and installed the .deb package for 1.09. I then proceed to add the applet to my panel. When I do so, nothing happens and than panel locks up. So, I am stuck with out being able to use gtkwifi, or anything else (ie. applications, system, etc) So, I then have to switch to the console and kill gtkwifi. I go back to gnome, and there is an error message saying that it could not add gtkwifi to the panel.

I have tried this numerous times, each to no avail, and each with the same results. As soon as the process is killed, everything starts working normally again.

So, if anyone has any insight as to why I might be having these issues, I would be extremely grateful for your help.

Just for reference, my setup is:
Acer 2203Lci laptop
Dlink DWL-G650 PCMCIA card (which should work, but I will test to make sure that its not the issue)
Breezy Badger release of ubuntu

Thanks in advance.

Does it run when you type gtkwifi run-in-window
in a terminal?

No, It does not, it just proceeds to freeze the computer until i switch out of gnome and kill it in the CLI.

Then it's probably a matter with the way your adapter is configured. Is it configured and working properly elsewhere and only causing problems with GTKWifi?

Well, I kinda got frustrated, and decided that I like kde better than gnome anyways, so i switched to kubuntu. However, I'm still having issues, so I think I'll move this to a more appropriate section, I don't think that it was GTKwifi's fault, but more something to do with the actual wireless card.

You could have tried Wifi Radar and Network Manager as well, as long as your wireless card is working properly.
