I'm wondering. Are there any benefits to installing programs via the command line as opposed to the add/remove menu, or synaptic package manager?

Hi stuart.reinke,

To answer your question a little sideways: There are great benefits to installing a program in any fashion that integrate into the Ubuntu package management system. The commandline can do this as well as add/remove or syntaptic, but it is not necessarily the easiest way for newcomers to Ubuntu to come to grips with.

All the best,

Andrew

One benefit would be that you learn command-line functions,
and that you gain confidence in managing your system via the cli.

Other than that, nope... :)
