hello gurus
can you guide to me step by step
how can i upgrade my machine laptop ibm thinkpad t21
i am using there ubuntu 8.10 server
how we can do this without source of internet, however cd,dvd is available.
can we do it, any detail article guideline step by step

i have put the cd-rom inside ubuntu 9.04
then i follow the instructions

it do say no new release found
can you advise how we can upgrade using cd-rom

Have you tried using the upgrade instructions for the Alternate CD at the below URL?

Try the server way of upgrading (https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/serverguide/C/installing-upgrading.html). Shouldn't be any different except that there's no gui.

Well, I was actually pointing to the alternate CD section, because the OP indicated that he wanted to upgrade without the machine having to use an internet connection; something do-release-upgrade requires.
