Okay so as far as linux goes, im pretty good with it as far as system hardware and compile software etc... But when it comes to networking, i couldn't find my way out of a paper bag. I'm trying to share files from my laptop to my xubuntu server setup, which i might go flux instead but idk. anyways i've tried to follow multiple samba/linux filesharing guides, but i'm getting nowhere... I am basically going to set up the extra tower as a file server, but this network will have no windows on it, at the moment i just have linux, and sometime soon i will have a imac going as well. so if anyone knows how i can like undo all of my bs and start fresh or just a stupid-proof network faq plz post. thx in advance!

There are a few different ways (besides Samba) to share files: FTP, NFS, SSHFS to name only a few. What method do you have in mind? (So I can link to the same guides you've already tried ;) )
