Today I decided to make something in Photoshop.. I decided to make a mockup of what I think the Gnome Sidebar should look like.

Here's what I came up with:
http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs42/i/2009/119/7/f/Gnome_Sidebar___Mockup_by_bradwjensen.png

You can grab the PSD file from here:

Anyways, I was wondering what everyone else thought about it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, there is a bug that I attached this mockup to: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508404

If anyone thinks of something useful, I think you should leave a comment about it on that bug page.

This looks elegant and quite clean! It would go well with a similar theme, but it would also be valuable to see a mockup of it actually inside nautilus, with the default Human theme. What do you think?

It sure looks a lot better.

I agree with you that it would be nice to see what it looks like with the default Human theme.
Right now I'm not into making that, but I did make this:
111783

It sure looks a lot better.

That is a nice mockup he has. I wonder how the eject buttons would fit in there. His would also take up more space for each item in the tree..

That looks pretty awesome, i have tried endlessly to mod that sidebar but there is so much you can do. Change the color and the button appearance some what. It would be nice if they implemented your idea or something similar to it.

The current Human colors added in this would make it look like so:
111472

There's lots of mockups in the bug post (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508404), but could someone write some actual code?

Nice idea, reminds me of OSX interface a bit.

Unfortunately, I'm no good at programing..

It's a lot like Mac's Finder side bar.. I tried to think of a few other ways to do it while keeping it simple and clean, but I can't think of any, besides what Hbons has mocked up. This is by far a lot better than the current nautilus side bar though.

I like it a great deal. Finder's side bar is so minimal and clean that you'd have a hard time doing anything without 'copying' it to some extent.

This looks nice, would fit in well with Nautilus and would be an improvement over what they have.
