I've just upgraded to (K)Ubuntu 9.04 and Amarok 2. It's been going well, except for two small problems;

1) Amarok2 is stuck on manual advance (playlist will repeat the song until you implicitly tell it to advance) for playlists if Random is set to "Tracks". I've checked everywhere for a button to turn off manual advance, but I can't see one. Possibly related; the "song selector" is a bit fickle at times - for example, if I want to go to the previous song, it first resets to the start of the current song, and will only go to the previous if I tell it to jump back again (similar to an iPod) - there seems to be a period of grace (~10s?) before Amarok interprets "go back" as "go to start of current song". Other times, when it's advancing to a new song, it will jump forward a few songs before settling (it will show a few consecutive OSDs quickly, and sometimes even plays start of the skipped song).

2) I can't have 2 applications accessing the sound concurrently. So, if I'm playing music, I can't hear audio notifications, watch an online video, or anything like that. I've run into this problem before, and from what I've read, it's to do with applications locking /dev/dsp when they shouldn't. The fix from last time of replacing pulseaudio with enlightened sound daemon didn't work.

Might not be what you want to hear, but I had so many of the same kinds of problems that you're having with Amarok 2 that I switched to Songbird tonight, and I can already tell I won't look back. I liked a lot of the new interface, but Amarok 2 just "fixed" too many things that weren't broken in 1.4, and Songbird functions well without the hassles. I didn't like it when I tried it a few months ago but it seems to have made great strides while Amarok is moving backwards.

Well I got Songbird downloaded kind of hard to install figured out didn't use command lines went into the folder I extracted Songbird in my home folder ... Went into Songbird folder and double clicked the songbird file it loaded.... I don't like the fact there is no icon loaded into ubuntu and this is not a make make install file runs off the sound of Firefox... Great better then Amarok with sound issues noticed sound works for videos after reloading the flash player for Firefox what a pain in the but...

Songbird works well...

Now I hope Ubuntu and developers can come up with a solution for all the wireless drivers that got dumped....

Also my Ubuntu loads in about 30 seconds a bit better... All these stupid videos and load times on Youtube are stupid... Great if I don't have data saved to the machine and a bunch of updated programs sure it will load in 18 seconds.... Stupid all these files take time to load....

How wants to lose there preferences for a machine that loads in 18 seconds...

sorry I love my programs one touch away no hunting and pecking...

Thanks for the help...

Also My movie player seemed to play most of my mp3's not all...

Well time to figure out how to create an icon to load this Songbird faster.....

The only major question is if I'm offline or not connected to the internet will Songbird play.... Anyways this will only take a second to figure out...

later...

Great Idea never even heard of Songbird till now... :)
