I had an issue with compiz, where I had to uninstall it.
After uninstalling compiz, ubuntu would boot into a black screen.
To get it to work, I had booted into recovery mode and did the last option to attempt to fix all graphical issues.
Now I got things running again, but the nvidia drivers will no longer work.
I always see [fail] next to it while its booting, regardless of the driver.
I tried 173 and 180.
My screen resolution is stuck at 800x600, and when I go into display to attempt to change it, it tries to bring me to nvidia's tool, which then tells me:
"You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run 'nvidia-xconfig' as root) and restart the X server."
Any ideas?

Edit

Now after a restart, Im stuck at the CLI because the X server wouldnt start.
